UAS theater department to present "The Marriage of Bette and Boo"

Students from the theatre department at the University of Alaska Southeast, under the direction of Perseverance Theatre’s Director of Education, Shona Strauser, will present their production of “The Marriage of Bette and Boo,” by Christopher Durang this weekend at UAS.

The show plays at 7:30 p.m. April 5-7, at the Hendrickson Theatre, located in room HB 113 of the Hendrickson Annex at UAS.

“The Marriage of Bette and Boo” is a humorous dissection of marriage and family in contemporary America. Bette, played by Taylor Vidic, is a young newlywed rushing to start a family, and her marriage to Boo, played by Bryan Crowder, turns out not to be the fairy tale, happy ending Bette had always wanted.

In addition to Vidic and Crowder, the cast includes Alyssa White, Richard Ringle, Melissa Scriven, Izabella Powers, Christopher Pierce, Emma Landvatter, Thomas Eggers and Chris Sims. The production team includes Vidic, Crowder, Pierce, Powers, Sims and Izzy Rowland.

Playwright Durang is known for his outrageous and often absurd comedies. He received Obie awards for this play, as well as “Sister Mary Explains It All For You” (1979), and "Betty’s Summer Vacation” (1999). He also received a nomination for a Tony award for Best Book of a Musical for “A History of the American Film.” His plays have been performed nationwide, including performances on Broadway and Off-Broadway.

Tickets for The Marriage of Bette and Boo will be sold at the door at each performance. Student tickets will be available for $5, non-student adult tickets will be available for $10.
