The 49 Alaska Writing Center will host its third annual Write-a-thon fundraising and community writing event Friday at Snow City Café in Anchorage. Starting at 6 p.m. participants will write for 4 hours and 9 minutes, fueled and motivated by appetizers, yoga breaks, inspirational quotes and prize drawings. At 10:09, the writing will end for the night and the blitz after-party will begin, continuing until 11 p.m.
The Write-a-thon is open to all ages, as well as to cyber-participants and satellite groups. Supporters who don’t live in Anchorage or who prefer to write at home are still encouraged to register.
This event raises money to help 49 Writers/49 Alaska Writing Center support creative writers from throughout Alaska at all stages of their development, while also building an audience for Alaska literature. The Write-a-thon is the nonprofit‘s premiere annual fundraising event.
Registration is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 18 and under. Participants are asked to set the goal of raising at least $100 in pledges through the FirstGiving online pledge system, where they can create individualized pledge pages.
Incorporated in April 2010, the 49 Alaska Writing Center is dedicated to supporting the artistic development of writers throughout Alaska, fostering a writing community, and building an audience for literature.
