Juneau welcomes student musicians from around Southeast for Music Fest

It’s Juneau’s year to host the annual Southeast Music Fest, a gathering of student musicians that rotates between Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau. This year’s festival begins Thursday, April 18, and runs through Saturday, April 20.

In the mornings, students will perform for adjudication, with the adjudicators working with students to help them improve their performances. In the afternoons, students attend workshops led by local and visiting musicians. And in the evenings, student music groups perform for the public at Juneau Douglas High School.

Public performances run from 6-10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Thursday’s lineup includes the TMHS Concert Choir. the JDHS String Orchestra and JDHS Symphonic Band, as well as bands from Hoonah, Wrangell and Sitka and choirs from Haines and Craig.

On Friday, the TMHS Orchestra and the TMHS Symphonic Band will perform, as well as choirs from Mt Edgecumbe, Sitka, Ketchikan and bands from Metlakatla, Craig, and Petersburg.

On Saturday, the JDHS WInd Ensemble and JDHS Choir will perform, as well as choirs from Wrangell, Petersburg and Sitka, bands from Klawock and Haines, and the wind ensemble from Ketchikan.
