Sherri McDonald selected to exhibit at Smithsonian Craft Show

"Under the Canopy" by Sherri McDonald

Sherri McDonald of Douglas was one of 121 artists and craftsmen chosen to exhibit at the 31th annual Smithsonian Craft Show, held this weekend in Washington, D.C.

The Smithsonian Craft Show features craft artists from across the country in one of 12 categories: basketry, ceramics, decorative fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, wearable art and wood. McDonald was selected in the paper category for her paper collage landscapes.

The 121 exhibitors were selected from more than 1,200 applicants; no artist is ever included without being juried into the show. This year’s show includes artists from 30 states as well as 44 first-time exhibitors.

McDonald, an artist, bookbinder and educator, has shown her work locally at Annie Kaills for many years. She is inspired by the ever changing faces of the mountains, ocean and sky of Southeast Alaska and is challenged to capture that beauty in her paper collage landscapes.
