The conductor and director of the Juneau Symphony will end his time with the symphony when the 2014 season ends. Music Director Kyle Wiley Pickett accepted a post as music director of the Topeka Symphony in Topeka, Kan.
Pickett will remain the conductor and music director of the Juneau Symphony through June 2014 and will help to find his replacement.
“The Juneau Symphony extends our heartfelt congratulations to Kyle on his new job and our sincere appreciation for his many years of dedicated work with our community,” the symphony said in a prepared release.
Pickett thanked Juneau for entrusting him with the symphony and called Juneau “my second home.”
“As many of you know, I have been applying for music director jobs for the last few years. I am very happy that I was selected as the next conductor for the Topeka Symphony — I feel like this is an important step for me and a good match for everyone, as well as a welcome new adventure for my family and my career,” Pickett was quoted as saying in the same release.
“I intend to conduct as many concerts next year in Juneau as I am able, and we will keep you informed as we finalize next year’s season plans,” he stated.
“Juneau took a risk on me 14 years ago as a young conductor with very little experience, and I will always be grateful for the extraordinary opportunity I was given to be the conductor of your orchestra,” Pickett said.
