The Alaska State Museum and the Canvas will present, “Walrus on the Floor Clay Collaboration,” a youth workshop for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, on Saturday, May 4. Preregistration is required.
Participating students will work with REACH artists, featured in the museum’s summer exhibition, “Fish in the Water, Bird on the Tree, and Vase by the Wall.” During the workshop, students will practice creating sculpture and build a giant walrus of clay that will be displayed in the museum’s art room this summer.
Students can sign up for one hour of sculpting at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. To register, call the museum at 465-2901 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
This activity is part of the Friends of the Alaska State Museum Exploring the arts program and paid for in part by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenue. This is the final museum youth activity of the school year.
