Symphony gears up for Motown pops concert with fun run, BBQ and dance

Prior to the Juneau Symphony’s Motown pops concerts next weekend, they will be hosting two Motown-inspired events, a fun run and a BBQ, both scheduled for Saturday, June 8.

The 5K Fun Run and Dance/Walk begins at the JDHS Teachers Parking Lot and continues down Glacier Highway. Runners and walkers will be accompanied by Motown music provided by the Juneau Radio Center prize patrol van. Participants can race in a 5K or walk (or dance/walk) in the 1 mile course. Registration begins at 4 p.m. and the run begins at 5 p.m.

That evening, the symphony will host a Motown BBQ, featuring pulled pork and ribs from the Spinning Pig, beginning at 6 p.m. at the JACC, followed by a Motown dance. Admission to the dinner and dance is $25, and the dance only is $10. Tickets are on sale at Hearthside Books, the JACC and online.

The symphony’s Motown! Pops Concert will be held next weekend, June 15 at 8 p.m. at Centennial Hall. Las Vegas vocal quartet Spectrum will perform hits by The Four Tops, The Drifters, The Temptations and more, backed by the Juneau Symphony. Tickets are on sale at Hearthside Books, the JACC and online. Door tickets also available, and all seating is general admission.
