Artwork by three Juneau artists selected for Contemporary Art Bank

"Fireweed Field" by Barbara Craver was one of three local works selected for the Alaska Contemporary Art Bank, a collection created by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. Only 22 works were selected from 901 submissions.

Paintings by three local artists were among the 22 pieces selected for this year’s acquisitions for the Alaska Contemporary Art Bank, a program managed by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. The acquisitions will become part of a lending collection available to state offices throughout Alaska. The local works are “Fireweed Field” by Barbara Craver, “Night Glacier” by Brandon Hauser, and “Bonanza Creek Mine” by Averyl Veliz.

The Alaska Contemporary Art Bank was founded in 1975 by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. It was created to expose Alaskans to work by contemporary Alaskan artists, while at the same time providing support to those artists through the purchase of their work. The collection consists of more than 600 artworks in a variety of media, all of them by Alaskan artists.

This year’s jurors picked the 22 pieces from a pool of 901 submissions. Only works priced under $4,000 are considered.
