Friends of Fourth and Gold present "Spectacular!" event

Friends of Fourth and Gold will present a benefit event ‑ Spectacular! ‑ Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity at the corner of Fourth and Gold Streets.

Spectacular! will combine music, spoken word, theater improvisation and visual art, and will feature local talent including Natalia Spengler, Dan and Kathleen Wayne, Christy NaMee Eriksen and many others. The event will be produced by the Friends of Fourth and Gold, a mix of individuals and groups who use Holy Trinity’s sanctuary, classrooms and fellowship hall for self-help meetings, classes, poetry slams, theatrical performances, workshops, storytelling and music concerts.

“The Spectacular! is a way for the creative community to help Holy Trinity defray some of its operating expenses and keep rental rates of the new facility affordable,” said performer and event co-organizer Patricia Hull.

Holy Trinity’s original 100-year old historic building was destroyed by a fire in 2006, and the new fully accessible building became operational in 2010.

At the Spectacular! simultaneous performances will take place in McPhetres Hall and the Sanctuary with music upstairs and spoken word below; audience members will have an opportunity to exchange places at intermission. Visual art donated from artists and collectors will be on display and for sale throughout the building.

Featured performers include pianist Natalia Spengler; Dan and Kathleen Wayne, accompanied by Kim Andrews; spoken word artist Christy NaMee Eriksen and poets from the Wooosh Kinaadeiyi group she founded; Brett and Cheryl Crawford; storyteller Tom Cosgrove; the Juneau Pride Chorus Ensemble; Scarlett Adam; Patricia Hull accompanied by Tom Locher; and the Morally Improverished improv group.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances start at 7 p.m. An intermission will be held at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25, available at Hearthside Books, the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, at the door and through the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council’s online ticketing service, or by calling the Holy Trinity Church at 586-3532.
