The Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation has planned a Seafood Gala and Fundraiser to help support sexual assault training and certification for Bartlett nurses. The event will be held at Timberline, atop Mount Roberts Tram, on Saturday, Sept. 7. It will include an Alaskan seafood dinner, auction and live music provided by two duos: Tom Locher and Wayne Norlund, and local doctor and former Broadway singer Mimi Benjamin accompanied by Robert Cohen.
The hospital foundation has been planning the event for months.
“We hope to raise more than $40,000 to provide training and certification for Bartlett’s nurses in conducting sexual assault exams,” said foundation board president Holly Cerne. “They’ve been without this important certification for far too long, and it’s time to change that.”
At the event, former Representative Caren Robinson will be honored for her years of service on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Robinson, a survivor of domestic violence herself, is the founder of Juneau’s AWARE shelter.
The seafood gala will feature a menu put together by celebrity chef Jesse Ziff Cool of CoolEatz restaurants and Timberline Catering Manager Mark Collier. Highlights include a choice of appetizers served white-glove style, a salad of new greens and spicy maple pecans, and a plated dinner of herb and flower-encrusted black cod. All the seafood was donated by Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, and the beer by Alaskan Brewing Co. A variety of desserts -- including several gluten-free options -- were donated by local bakers to be auctioned off.
Other items that will be auctioned off at the Gala are artwork and jewelry, meals, massages, and gift certificates for travel experiences, including two tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flies and a seven-day island-hopping luxury cruise in the Sea of Cortez with Un-Cruise Adventures. Professional auctioneer Charles Crochet from Louisiana, who is the father of ER nurse Jeanne Crochet, will join radio personality Sharon Burns at the auction podium, Cerne said, adding that the foundation is grateful to Juneau community members and businesses for their donations and sponsorship.
“Juneauites should be proud of how generously this community has given to help us reach our goal,” she said.
In addition to Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, corporate sponsors of the Gala include Guardian Flight, Sealaska Corporation, Hecla Greens Creek, Rainforest Pediatrics, the Alaska Peace Officers Association, and Juneau Emergency Medical Associates, with additional help from Alaskan Brewing Co., Goldbelt, and the Mount Roberts Tram.
Tickets for the Seafood Gala are $125 each, and are available at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center, Hearthside Books and at the Foundation office. For more information, contact the Foundation office at 463-5704 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
