Sealaska Heritage Institute extends call for entries for February fashion show

Sealaska Heritage Institute has invited artists and fashion designers to submit original pieces for a Fashion Show at the 2014 Tináa Art Auction, to be held Feb. 1, 2014. The auction will showcase works by some of the biggest names in Northwest Coast art, including Preston Singletary, Robert Davidson, David Boxley, Delores Churchill and Nathan Jackson. Funds from the auction will benefit the construction of the Walter Soboleff Center, honoring the cultures of Southeast Alaska through art, language, and education programs.

The Fashion Show will be a major feature of the evening and will be an opportunity for artists and designers to showcase their work on the runway. Items in the Fashion Show will not be sold at our fundraiser, but can be sold following the event.

American Indian and Alaska Native artists and designers ages 18 or older are encouraged to apply. SHI is looking for high-fashion pieces that display innovative use of traditional styles and materials.

The deadline for entries is Oct. 7.

Applications must include three high resolution photos or illustrations of the proposed piece, or, if the proposed idea is not yet complete, high resolution photos of three previous works (which need not be a garments).

Completed applications can be submitted via email, mail, or hand-delivered.
