Opera To Go will host a vocal masterclass led by Mark Kratz this Sunday, Sept. 15 beginning at 3 p.m. The class has space for eight participants and an unlimited number of auditors.
Tenor Kratz was recently featured as the soloist for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ annual “Messiah Sing-A-Long” accompanied by the National Opera Orchestra. He also played the role of Don Jose in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Cinnabar Theater this June.
He is a 2006 graduate of the Tri-Cities Opera young artist training program and a 2003 young artist for the Tacoma Opera. He holds a master’s degree in Opera from Binghamton University and a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from the Eastman School of Music. His roles as a visiting artist in Juneau have included The Beast in “Beauty and the Beast” (Juneau Lyric Opera), Tamino in “Die Zauberflöte” (Opera to Go), and he will be playing the role of Alfredo in Juneau Lyric Opera’s production of “La Traviata” this fall.
He is also the youngest person to have sung at the Newport Music Festival in Newport, R.I.
