The Alaska State Museum has posted two current solo exhibits online: Nicholas Galanin’s “The State of Being, Displaced” and Tommy Joseph’s “Rainforest Warriors.”
Galanin, a Sitka-born Tlingit artist, works in many different mediums. His current exhibit includes video, monotype, prints, masks and paper. It may be viewed here: museums.alaska.gov/online_exhibits/nick_galanin_2013.html. Additionally, his videos may be viewed on YouTube at www.youtube.com/user/ngalanin/videos.
Joseph, also based in Sitka, is a Tlingit artist who has been carving since the third grade. This exhibit showcases his Tlingit armor, based on historical models he studied at museums around the world. His exhibit can be viewed here: museums.alaska.gov/online_exhibits/tommy_joseph_2013.html.
These two exhibits, along with Kay Parker’s exhibit of Ravenstail weavings, are on view at the museum through Oct. 12.
