Ketchikan Museums name new senior curator of collections

Andrew Washburn

The Ketchikan Museums have hired a new senior curator of collections: Andrew Washburn, who will serve as senior curator for both the Tongass Historical Museum and the Totem Heritage Center. The Tongass Historical Museum is a small community facility and the Totem Heritage Center preserves 19th century totem poles, in addition to conducting classes and workshops in the traditional arts of Southeast Alaska Native cultures. Both museums are city owned.

Until recently, Washburn was historical projects manager at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle.

Washburn received his bachelor of arts in history from Kenyon College, and his master of arts in museum studies from San Francisco State University. His museum experience includes work at Yellowstone National Park, the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, and the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
