Rasmuson Foundation Awards Tier 1 Grant to JAHC

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council received $14,837 from the Rasmuson Foundation as a Tier 1 grant to purchase a new stage for the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.

The funds will be used to purchase a 16 ft. by 24 ft. Wenger StageTek riser system, including railings, steps and a roller deck for the grand piano. The system comes with varying lengths of legs to allow for flexibility when presenting a show, or to allow it to serve as risers for choirs. The system is strong, yet light-weight, and easy to move as needed. Wenger products are known for their long-lasting durability, and exceptional design.

The new stage replaces a cumbersome, heavy, mismatched, and potentially dangerous hodge-podge of homemade wooden platforms.

Executive Director Nancy DeCherney said “This is such a relief! The existing stage, while having served well for six years, was going to hurt someone one of these days. I got the word about the funding in the middle of Capital Brewfest — Rotarians had hefted the old stage out of the building and into a UHaul for the event — and there was a general “Huzzah!” knowing we will not need to do that again. I am so thankful to the Rasmuson Foundation for recognizing this need.”

The new stage will arrive within the month.
