Juneau-Douglas City Museum Director Jane Lindsey is one of four history professionals who were elected to the governing council of the American Association for State and Local History last month, the AASLH recently announced. The AASLH, headquartered in Nashville, is a not-for-profit professional organization that works to advance knowledge, understanding and appreciation of local history in America.
The organization elected the council members during their annual meeting Sept. 20 in Birmingham, Ala. their selections were based on votes from association members nationwide, gathered over the summer of 2013.
In addition to Lindsey, new council members are Janet Gallimore, Executive Director of the Idaho State Historical Society in Boise, Idaho; Kenneth C. Turino, Manager of Community Engagement and Exhibitions at Historic New England in Boston, Mass.; and Tobi Voigt, Chief Curatorial Officer at the Detroit Historical Society in Detroit, Mich.
AASLH Council is comprised of 16 individuals and four officers, representing a diversity of institutions and professions in the field of history. Each council member serves one four-year term.
The Juneau-Douglas City Museum, a long-time member of the AASLH, has in the past received two Merit Awards for excellence in state and local history by the association. The Montana Creek Fish Trap project, led by Ellen Carrlee, received a merit award and WOW award in 2006, and The Digital Stories Project, led by Alysia Jones, received a merit award in 2011.
