Local hip-hop group Strange Paths will host a CD release party on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sandbar. The evening will include a performance by the band, a live comedy show with Anchorage comedian Kelly Lee Williams and DJ music hosted by T-Bone, who also a member of Strange Paths.
Band members in addition to T-Bone (Tony Pearce) are Lance Mitchell, Jaden Sierra and Jessica Luckenbihl. Each of the four members contributes vocals on the album, as well as original lyrics.
In a previous Empire interview, the band said their approach to songwriting is a collaborative process, with each member putting forth ideas based on a shared beat. Their music features a combination of harmony singing and rapping -- a blend made famous by one of Strange Path’s major influences, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony; Luckenbihl and Mitchell provide harmony and Sierra and T-Bone rap, usually taking turns throughout the tracks.
The album, “Now or Never,” has been in the works for the past few years, as band members juggled shifting schedules and saved up the money for the studio time. It includes the tracks “Success,” a song based on the theme from Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, and “Straight to the Top.”
The CD release party will include a Mexican dinner served by the Sandbar; call the restaurant for more information at 789-8400. The comedy show and music are offered free, but there will be a charge for the meal.
