This year’s winners of F Magazine’s “F-Action!” statewide music video competition, announced Nov. 7 in Anchorage, included Juneau musician George Kuhar, for his video “Mysterious.” (Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=abUeTrms6qE&feature=youtu.be).
Kuhar was one of five finalists in the competition, which received 26 entries. Judges were Chris Gubisch, Josh Mancell, Paula Goldberg, Chen Rohwer and Gretchen Kinder.
The winning video was “Tiny Birch Basket” directed and produced by The Dean Brothers of Homer and Portland, Ore., with music by Michael Howard.
Second place went to Myra Johnson, of Anchorage, for her video “Crush,” and in third was “Derailed,” directed by John Norris of Anchorage, with music by Seth Boyer.
Kuhar’s video and “Z : Lute Mosaic” by Timothy Robb, of Fairbanks, were honored with F’in Accolades.
Kuhar plays locally with bands Playboy Spaceman and B Team Allstars, as well as solo. His releases include a solo album, “Live at the Rookery,” and a Playboy Spaceman EP, produced and performed with his wife, Bridget Cross Kuhar. The Kuhars also have their own record label, Shadow Island Records (www.shadowislandrecords.com).
F Magazine is now accepting entries for their fourth annual Alaska Statewide Youth Art & Writing Competition. Finalists will have their work published in F Magazine and the top two will be awarded a full scholarship to Sitka Fine Arts Camp. The deadline for entries is Dec. 16.
