Juneau Dance Unlimited will present their annual production of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Ballet” this weekend, with four shows scheduled at the Juneau Douglas High School auditorium.
Performance times are Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7, at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8, at 2 p.m.
This year’s special guest artists are professional dancers Michael Galloway and Matt Doolin. Galloway will be dancing the role of the Cavalier with JDU dancer Gabrielle Duvernay as his partner, the Sugar Plum Fairy. Doolin will be dancing duel roles of the Snow King, with JDU partner Anouk Otsea as the Snow Queen, and the Arabian Pas De Deux with JDU partner Misha Culver.
JDU artistic director Philip Krauter has paired his advanced dancers with out-of-town professionals for the past several years.
All three of these JDU dancers have performed in the Nutcracker for many years, working their way up to these technically advanced roles. The role of the Sugar Plum Fairy also used to be danced by a guest artist, but since 2011, advanced JDU students have danced the part.
This year, the role of Clara will be danced on pointe by Brimley Olliff.
Tickets to the ballet ($20/$15) are available online at juneaudance.org or JAHC.org, at Hearthside Books and at the door.
