State arts council to host events in conjunction with Governor's Awards

The Alaska State Council on the Arts and the Alaska Humanities Forum are currently planning a series of events to coincide with this year’s Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities ceremony scheduled for Jan, 30 at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The event starts with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony that will showcase performances by Alaskan artists. Tickets for the Governor’s Awards will go on sale soon.

ASCA and AKHF are also working with Museums Alaska to host the inaugural CHAMP (Culture, Humanities, Arts and Museum Partners) Days at the State Capitol Jan. 29-30. CHAMP Days will provide an opportunity for Alaskans who are in Juneau for the awards ceremony to meet with their elected officials and share with them how the state’s investment in the arts works to positively impact and strengthen their communities. The event kicks off with a professional development opportunity at 10 a.m. on Jan. 29. Jamie Bennett, the outgoing Chief of Staff at the National Endowment for the Arts and incoming Director of ArtPlace, will be a featured speaker.
