'Bonnie & Clyde' showing precedes opening of new Perseverance play

The 1967 classic film "Bonnie and Clyde," starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, will be shown Saturday night at the Gold Town. The showing is scheduled to coincide with the Jan. 10 opening of the Perseverance Theatre play, "Rush at Everlasting."

To get Juneau audiences in the mood for Perseverance Theatre’s newest production, “Rush at Everlasting,” the Gold Town Nickelodeon will host a special showing of the original “Bonnie & Clyde,” starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The 1967 film, directed by Arthur Penn, presents the romanticized story of notorious gangster couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, who embark on a crime spree during the Great Depression. It will play one night only, on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The film won two Academy Awards -- Estelle Parsons for Best Supporting Actress and Burnett Guffey for Best Cinematography -- and was nominated for eight more, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing.

The upcoming Perseverance production, “Rush at Everlasting,” also set in the 1930s, tells the story of two women fallen on hard times who make plans to rob a bank. This play is a world premiere, written by Alaskan playwright Arlita Jones and directed by Bostin Christopher, with dramaturgy by Jayne Wenger. The three-person cast consists of Charity Pomeroy (Ruby Gold) Tom Robenolt (Jim Ryan) and Tiffany Nichole Greene (Africa Jade).

“Rush at Everlasting” opens Jan. 10, with pay-as-you-can preview shows scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5, and Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
