The Alaska Design Forum’s Bling lecture series continues next week with a presentation by Pitupong Chaowakul of the multidisciplinary design group Supermachine, based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Chaowakul’s talk will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at the Gold Town Nickelodeon at 6 p.m. Chaowakul, who has studied architecture in Bangkok and Rotterdam, formed Supermachine Studio in 2009. Prior to that, in 2003, he and five colleagues founded “Thisdesign” in Bangkok, designing a wide range of projects including concerts, interiors and buildings.
In 2010 Chaowakul and his colleagues were chosen to participate in iLight Marina Bay in Singapore to construct a lighting installation sponsored by Philips lighting, and for the past three years they have designed one of the biggest outdoor music events in Thailand. The following week, the Alaska Design Forum will host the founding members of Solid Objectives, a architectural design firm based in New York. The firm has received numerous awards, including the MoMAPS1 Young Architects Program, as well as the AIA Young Practices Award, and has been featured in international publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company and Wallpaper, as well as in exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
