New Cajun comedy film premieres at Gold Town

Anchorage-based musician Curtis Norris stars in "You're In Charge," playing Friday at the Gold town Nickelodeon.

On Friday at 3 p.m., Gold Town Theater will premiere a new comedy filmed in Lafayette, LA, featuring a soundtrack by legendary Cajun fiddler Dirk Powell, and starring Lafayette native, Anchorage-based musician Curtis Norris, and Emmy-winning actress Mary Kay Place (“The Big Chill,” “Being John Malkovich,” “Sweet Home Alabama”).

Directed by Sundance Award-winning cinematographer Tom Krueger (“Committed,” starring Heather Graham), “You’re In Charge” begins on the day Eddie Guidry (Norris) gets out of prison and sets out to reinvent himself as a doctor of alternative medicine. Eddie’s pervasive optimism convinces his freshly unemployed brother-in-law, Dicky, to secretly use his and his very-pregnant wife’s entire savings to partner up in the business. With the baby coming any day, tension on the rise between Sam and Dicky, chaos at home as the family prepares for Sam’s home birth, and Eddie’s battle for approval from his father and ex-wife — not to mention battle for customers to the business’s website, before the first payment comes due — things start to get complicated. And when they don’t go quite as Eddie and Dicky had hoped, it’s not long before the entire family is embroiled.

The premiere will be attended by members of the Folk Festival guest band, Bonsoir Catain, who will lead an open Cajun music jam after the film. Doors open at 3 p.m., and the movie begins at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 at the door.
