Brown's postcard exhibit opens in Haines

"Salmon Eggs" by Jeff Brown, currently on view at the Sheldon Museum in Haines.

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum’s “Masterpieces of Merriment” exhibit, a collection of humorous postcards created by Jeff Brown, recently opened at the Sheldon Museum in Haines, where it will be on exhibit through May 24.

Sheldon Museum’s new Director, Helen Alten, contacted the City Museum months ago to discuss the possibility of bringing the exhibit to Haines. She also communicated with Brown about exhibiting additional pieces to mount a more comprehensive exhibit of his work.

“(It) seems Haines residents appreciate the chance to laugh and be light-hearted,” she said in a release. “Their favorite item, I think, is the Swiss Army Ulu Knife.”

Brown, who traveled to Haines for the opening reception, commented, “You really know you’ve aged a bit when your work is hanging in a museum. I was honored to be part of the celebrations and to connect with long-time friends.”

One viewer left this comment; “My face hurts from smiling and laughing.”
