A busy final weekend for Jazz & Classics

Juneau Jazz & Classics will head into its final weekend tomorrow, following two weeks of jam-packed concerts, workshops and free performances.

If you haven’t yet seen The Anton Schwartz Quartet or the The Akropolis Reed Quintet, there’s still time. Both will be performing Friday: The Akropolis Reed Quintet will play a free Brown Bag Concert at noon at the Nugget Mall, and The Anton Schwartz Quartet will perform “An Evening of Jazz” at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall.

But first up is Paul Rosenthal and Arnulf von Arnim, who will be performing music by Bach, Schubert and Beethoven at 7 p.m. tonight at Chapel by the Lake.

Tickets for both Thursday and Friday evening’s concerts are $25 and are available online at www.jazzandclassics.org.

On Saturday, the final day of the festival, the University of Alaska Southeast will host Community Day on Campus, featuring live music, food and festivities, from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. A Carnival of the Arts will be held during the same hours and will feature a student art show, among other events. Community Day is hosted in partnership with the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council. (See Carnival of Arts brief in this week's Arts.)

And Saturday night, vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer will close out the festival at 8 p.m. at the Juneau Douglas High School Auditorium. A limited number of tickets, which cost $60, are still available for their performance.
