The Juneau Symphony recently announced the winners of the 2014 Youth Solo Competition. Tezah Haddock, 11, won the Junior Division on violin and James Cheng, 16, won the Senior Division on cello. Both winners will perform their pieces with the Juneau Symphony at a mainstage concert next season.
The competitors, in addition to Cheng and Haddock, were Henry Cheng, Robert Newman, Dugan McNutt, Olivia Gardner, Meredith Fritsch, Jayden West, Reece Bleakley, Katline Barrows, and Alexzander Yu. The judges included Juneau Symphony members Lisa Ibias, concertmaster; Sally Schlichting, principal flutist; Franz Felkl, principal second violinist; and Abe Levy, principal bass.
Juneau Symphony music director Kyle Wiley Pickett announced the winners immediately following the competition on June 4.
