Writers’ Weir: Summer Solstice

The sun God beams her rays on earth

Creating dancing shadows

People flourish with reborn mirth

Singing with drums and banjos

Warmer days set our skins aglow

Fruits ripen ever faster

We salute the dawn with gusto

While wildflowers fill pastures

Children hang their bright suncatchers

In reds and oranges of sunrise

The longest day is now captured

Where sprouts reach out to the skies

Dawns a fresh season of outside

Amidst vivid green color

The sun soars above to new heights

And fiddlehead ferns unfurl

Wearing flower crowns in dance spins

All souls warmed in summertide

Alive with birdsong and squirrels

Handpicked herbs are vased and dried

The north folk have a skipping stride

Golden sun forms baked in dough

Welcoming rebirth, purified

With stewardship, seeds are sewn.
