Spring has not quite sprung but the bears are already stirring.
Multiple black bear sightings have been reported around the capital city in the past week or two.
One was spotted in a neighborhood past the ferry terminal. Another found a snack in the back of a man’s truck parked in Auke Bay, where garbage was left unattended.
“Totally his fault and he knew it,” Stephanie Sell, an area biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, said of the vehicle owner during a Thursday phone interview. “He just didn’t expect bears to be out by now.”
