Ellsworth Cabin, a little two-story log cabin tucked away on the University of Alaska Southeast campus, once housed female students in the school’s graduate program.
Somewhere along the way, the building fell into disrepair. It was condemned a number of years ago and now only serves as a storage room.
Next Saturday, it will serve another use, which will also be its final one: to help local firefighters practice live fire drills and their response to a real structure fire. UAS donated the cabin to Capital City Fire/Rescue, which plans on torching it next weekend.
