The next time you see a local joint that should be shared with the world, there’s a way to do that. That’s the reason veteran Alaska travel writer Edward Readicker-Henderson created the iPhone app “Alaska’s Inside Passage” and is searching for more Southeast sites to feature.

He made the app to feature local interests and businesses specific to Southeast Alaska’s bigger cities like Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Skagway and Haines. The app stays on things local not just to Alaska but to this corner of it.

For its fourth anniversary, the Alliance for Aviation Across America has highlighted milestones in general aviation research.

Founded in 2007, the Alliance has worked in research and raising awareness for general aviation, an issue those connected to it say is an important one in Alaska’s economy.

Executive Director Selena Shilad described the term “general aviation” as that which deals in non-scheduled, non-cargo flights, such as those involved in medical transports, law enforcement, disaster relief, flight schools and others.

An Alaska teen group has been garnering national attention, and the donations continue to pour in.

Alaska PRIDE, an Anchorage nonprofit dedicated to teens, was featured on NBC’s “Today” show Monday. Al Roker visited the group on his first stop in this year’s “Lend a Hand” tour, which travels the country delivering donations and supplies to charities in need.

The U.S. Forest Service has denied two separate appeals, one from the State of Alaska and another from Greenpeace, concerning the Central Kupreanof timber harvest Record of Decision (ROD).

The two parties had argued on opposite ends of the spectrum, with the State arguing that the Central Kupreanof timber harvest wasn’t enough to justify the project while Greenpeace stated the project doesn’t examine the wildlife aspect closely enough.
