“Horrible Bosses,” this summer’s latest R-rated comedy, reinforces an idea that many of us have suspected since we were kids: it’s got to be fun to be bad. And if you can’t be evil yourself, you can settle for watching others pretending to be.

This is the notion behind the title and it doesn’t disappoint. What could have easily been a mediocre comedy quickly shows it’s got some chops. It’s nothing too groundbreaking or daring, and it’s heavy on language we’re all used to, but it somehow makes the most of itself.

With Alaska’s oil reserves on the decline the question many face is how to prepare for lower levels of product flowing through the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS). Alyeska’s comprehensive Low Flow Impact Study report concludes that the line can be safely operated at levels down to 350,000 barrels per day. This limit could only be a decade or so away.

Alyeska Communications Director Michelle Egan said the current average is slightly more than 600,000 barrels a day and has dropped annually at a range of 5 to 7 percent in recent years.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Alaska has received $1.1 million for land conservation contracts through the Farm Bill Program, Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program and Environmental Quality Incentives Program.

The funds will go toward projects like trail hardening, high tunnels, fish passage work, stream bank stabilization, erosion countering and forest improvement. This will all be done on privately owned lands, as that is what NRCS works with exclusively.

There’s been an unexpected change at the top spot of Goldbelt, Inc.’s board of directors.

Del Cesar has stepped down after only a month as chairman.

“Unfortunately, due to health reasons, I am not able to continue the hectic pace required of the Chairman of the Board,” Cesar said in a release. “I am grateful to have been given this opportunity, and it is with regret that I must step down at this time.”

Upon his announcement, the board elected Karen A. Taug to replace him.
