This week I’m highlighting new juvenile illustrated fiction plus book and audio pairs. Some of my favorite books are in the JIF collection (“Grandmother’s Pigeon,” “The Secret Knowledge of Grown-ups”) – when you’re looking for kids’ books with more intricate plots and mature themes than a picture book, but with the same illustration-saturated format, this is what you want. Book and audio pairs come two ways: one is a book with a CD and the second is a book with an audiotape.

A little of everything for nonfiction readers: look for art, essays, self-help, and travel books on the shelves at the Juneau Public Libraries.

New nonfiction for adult readers at the Juneau Public Libraries includes graphic novels, current events, and how-to helps on topics ranging from gardening to crafting.

Get to know people from all walks of life — new biographies are on the shelves at the public libraries. Biographies are mostly shelved under the Dewey number 921, but you’ll also find interesting multi-person biographies in 920; for instance, the story of Julia Child and her friend, Avis DeVoto. Browse the libararies’ collections or zero in on the person you’re interested in using the catalogue.
