To save money in the face of a gaping budget hole, Gov. Bill Walker announced Wednesday that two Department of Labor and Workforce Development divisions will be combined into one.
The divisions of Business Partnerships and Employment Security will be combined into the new Division of Employment and Training Services, Walker said in a news conference Wednesday morning. The merger will save the state $600,000.
“(It) does not balance a budget but it’s a start,” Walker said. “I’m absolutely thrilled that (DOL) Commissioner (Heidi) Drygas has brought this forward on her own.”
