Samuel Kurland, a 2013 Juneau-Douglas High School graduate, was the recipient of the National Merit Scholarship Tuesday night.
“The odds were against you,” said Sean O’Brien, Board of Education vice president, “and you did well. Congratulations.”
The scholarship is for $2,500 and can be used at any U.S. accredited college or university.
Kurland is planning to attend Stanford University in the fall where he hopes to pursue a degree in physical and social sciences, though is undecided.
