There was no pressure for Thunder Mountain High School junior Rhys Coffee on Wednesday night.

All she had to do was hit a penalty kick with eight minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the match to break a 1-1 tie against the visiting Ketchikan girl’s soccer team.

The Lady Kings had won the night before to take the conference lead in the young season and had controlled most of the ball possession.

No pressure.

“I just remember what I do in practice,” Rhys Coffee said. “I have my spot and place it there.”

What a difference a night makes.

After showing a 15-4 upper hand against the Ketchikan Lady Kings on Thursday, the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears girl’s softball team was dealt a short deal in the dusk of a 6-4 Friday night loss.

The JDHS batters were retired in order to open the fifth inning and the 90-miniute running clock was down to 25 seconds.

JDHS believed they had one more chance at bat, the umpires believed other wise and the game was called.

The Klukwan Jilkats never trailed in their 63-35 win over Kake in the 67th Annual Gold Medal Basketball Tournament Masters Bracket Championship game on Saturday at Juneau-Douglas High School.

Jeff Shannbroich hit the opening bucket off the glass for the first two points of the championship game and the Klukwan team was off and running.

The Thunder Mountain High School boy's basketball team had another page of history in their hands ready to be written during double overtime at the 2013 4A boy's state basketball tournament on Friday at Anchorage's Sullivan Arena.

Although that history will be scripted and read at a later date, the moments provided in this game will live on in the program's young existence.

Trailing in the second overtime, Vili Tupou hit a deep triple to give the Falcons a 57-56 lead with 1:41 remaining. Palmer's James Nisbett took the lead back with a drive down the lane.
