Colony High School senior Mary Klapperich signed a national letter of intent to play division one basketball at Southern Utah University earlier this season.

On Friday night the Juneau-Douglas High School girl’s basketball team got a taste of D-I play as Klapperich, stymied on defense by Crimson Bears junior Kymberlee Kelly and relegated to the bench with her second foul in the second period, stormed back in the second half to finish with eight points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and no fouls to lead the Knights to a 51-37 win.

The Juneau-Douglas High School girl’s basketball team will have their hands full as they host the Colony Knights on Friday and Saturday for the annual Crimson Bears’ Homecoming series.

“We have been studying game film from last year to see what we did positively,” JDHS coach Dee Boster said. “And maybe not so positively.

Anchorage’s District 1 Nunaka Valley Little League junior girl’s softball team was chosen as a 2013 Alaska Sports Hall Of Fame Directors Award recipient on Wednesday, according to a press release from the ASHOF.

Juneau fans may remember Nunaka Valley when they battled the Gastineau Channel Little League in the Alaska State Juniors All Star Softball Tournament at Melvin Park this past July.

It has come down to one game on the ice for the Crimson Bears.

The Juneau-Douglas High School hockey team will be facing a heavy task on the Mid-Alaska Conference playoff road Friday night at Fairbanks.

Not only do the black and red boys have to skate against the conference’s second seed Lathrop (8-12-1), but they have to do it without the puck skills of senior Kevin Zigarlick who was lost to a shoulder injury during last weekend’s senior appreciation series against the Hutchison Hawks.
