Governor Sean Parnell highlighted his State Of The State speech Wednesday night from the State Capital with what will probably the most important statement of this legislative session.

Parnell complimented TMHS coach John Blasco and the Thunder Mountain Falcons for wearing Choose Respect T-shirts while warming up for games.

“So, thank you Falcons,” Parnell said. “For sending a powerful message both on and off the court.”

Six Glacier Swim Team members participated in the IM Extreme Northwest Games this past weekend at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon and swam away with a good bounty of medal wear.

“I thought our swimmers swam very well,” GSC coach John Wray said. “We knew they were going to be competitive, we just didn’t know they were going to be this competitive. I was very happily surprised.”

The Juneau-Douglas High School hockey team dropped two games to Lathrop at Fairbanks over the weekend, falling to the Malemutes 5-0 on Friday and 7-0 on Saturday.

The losses mean that the Crimson Bears need to get one win this weekend in a crucial home stand at Treadwell Arena against conference foe West Valley.

Thunder Mountain High School’s Thomas Riley and Jackson Pavitt, and Juneau-Douglas’ Ben Hock placed in the top six of their weight brackets in last weekend’s 2012 Glenn Vandergaw Wrestling Tournament at Dimond High School.

The tournament is a preview of the competition that will be on the mats during the 2012 state wrestling championships Feb. 3-4. It was also a good encounter before both teams travel to Ketchikan this weekend, their final matches before Thunder Mountain hosts the Region V championships on Jan. 27-28.
