In the scheme of things, athletic competitions pale to the realities of real life. So when the opportunity arises to bring the two together for a good cause, everybody wins.
On Saturday the Juneau Cancer Connection will host the 24th annual Beat the Odds – A Race Against Cancer event.
“I am probably not going to be able to run the whole 5K but I am going to try,” Juneau’s Emily Ricci said. “Probably going to walk most of it.”
Ricci, 32, said she wasn’t much of a runner before chemotherapy but she kept herself in shape.
