Members of the Juneau School District Board of Education met with Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich and other members of the district administration in the JSD Central Office Tuesday evening for their quarterly retreat, where they agreed that nothing should be “off the table” in next year’s budget process.

While board members found common ground on several areas of the budget that they want to prioritize, they shied away from crafting a list of “non-negotiable” budget items.

Voters in the proposed Petersburg Borough voted to incorporate as Alaska’s 19th borough, according to unofficial election results Tuesday evening.

The City of Petersburg will dissolve in the incorporation of the home-rule borough, though Kupreanof, a city of just 27 people that lies within the boundaries of the borough, will not.

Unofficial results Tuesday showed 584 votes for the ballot question to 476 against it, a margin of about 10 percentage points.

Little more than a week before Christmas, a volunteer organizer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Adopt-A-Family Christmas Gift Program said Monday that just a quarter of the families in the program have been “adopted.”

“We only have 12 out of the 50 adopted, and we’re supposed to have that done by this Friday,” said Rena Sims.

A committee of the Docks and Harbors board of directors reviewed more than $2.7 million in marine passenger fee requests for the Juneau enterprise fund Thursday evening.

Individuals and organizations interested in receiving revenues collected by the local passenger fees, which are assessed at $5 per head on cruise ships with overnight accommodations for 21 or more passengers, in fiscal year 2014 must submit their funding requests to City Manager Kim Kiefer’s office by Dec. 31.
