Maybe the Falcons should consider wearing pink more often.

Thunder Mountain picked up its first win of the season Friday night, pulling away in the second half for a 48-21 Southeast Conference victory over the Ketchikan Kings in Juneau.

TMHS sported new uniforms with pink numbers, lettering and socks to help raise awareness for breast cancer during the first-ever Falcons Care Night. All gate proceeds and money raised was donated to the Cancer Connection, benefitting those in need in Southeast who are battling cancer.

After losing 12 seniors to graduation and only returning one varsity member from last season’s team, Juneau-Douglas looks to a completely different group of players to step up and compete at the high level the Crimson Bears are known for in Southeast.

“It’s going to be about playing with heart and desire,” coach Sandi Wagner said. “We’re not as athletic, but these kids are working hard and I like what I see so far.”

With the Bears’ 1-0 win over South Anchorage on Saturday in the state title game, recently graduated senior center-midfielder Nathan Fosket became the first player in JDHS soccer history to be part of three state championship teams. While soccer takes up the majority of Fosket’s busy schedule, he has also made time to perform in multiple musicals at the high school, participate in drama, debate and forensics, compete at the state level for tennis, enjoy the outdoors with friends and take service trips to Nicaragua with his youth group.

Juneau-Douglas girls’ track and field senior co-captain Maya Rieselbach helped the Bears to another region title this past weekend, but with the state meet approaching and her prep career coming to a close, she is even more determined to finish strong. Rieselbach, who is in her fourth season running track at JDHS, competes in the 100-meter dash, the 200, the long jump, the 4-x-100 relay and 4-x-200 relay. She has an interest in the field of anatomy, plans to go to college in Maine after graduating and can be found riding her unicycle on trails by the glacier in her free time.
