Today is Pearl Harbor Day, the day we commemorate the air strikes on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the invasion by the Japanese. My mother's first cousin, Harold Arneberg, died on the U.S.S. Vestal. My mother's beloved and only brother, Bill Collins, was killed during the war. Forever young, his photo was always in a prominent place in our home.
D-Day, on June 6th, is the commemoration of the Allies landing at Normandy, France. We visited this hallowed ground last summer while on a tour. I was so moved by the experience. The courage it took to walk right into enemy fire defies comprehension. Our guide was not only knowledgeable, but he was also a compassionate narrator. He conveyed the immense gratitude that is still felt by Europeans for the Americans who fought so bravely June 6, 1944.
I'd like to share some of the pictures I took at Normandy. Lest we forget.
