2012 municipal election results live-blog

9:05 p.m.: Mendenhall Valley #2 is our last of 13 precincts to report tonight, though the count will not be complete until absentee and questioned ballots are added into the total later this week. Sanford ends up with 3,334 votes to 2,674 for Jebe. Jones has 3,223 votes to 1,934 for Nowlin. Nankervis has 3,661 votes with just 738 write-in votes in his District 2 race. Story is up 3,740 for school board, followed by Carlson at 2,990, Sargeant  at 2,639, Muldoon at 2,094 and Johnston at 1,660. Prop 1 ends up behind, with 3,094 "no" votes to 3,037 "yes" votes. Prop 2 has 3,573 "yes" votes to 2,599 "no" votes. These results are with 13 out of 13 precincts reporting.

8:58 p.m.: At this point, it's looking like a photo finish for Prop 1, which has trailed in all Mendenhall Valley precincts so far. It will likely come down to the absentees and questioned ballots, which will be tallied on Friday.

8:54 p.m.: And Mendenhall Valley #4 comes in. Sanford 2,981-2,509. Jones 2,978-1,731. Nakervis 3,297-717. Story, Carlson and Sargeant still ahead. Proposition 1 still eking out a lead at 2,817-2,767. Prop 2 expands its lead at 3,307-2,316.

8:53 p.m.: Mendenhall Valley #3 reports. Sanford legs out to 2,582 over Jebe's 2,302 votes. Jones ahead 2,678-1,521. Nankervis 2,881-658. Story, Carlson and Sargeant still lead, as they have all evening. Prop 1 is at 2,535-2,424, and Prop 2 is at 2,962-2,036.

8:39 p.m.: Juneau #3 is in now. Sanford leads 2,222-2,151. Jones leads 2,446-1,314. Nankervis leads 2,512-620. Story, Carlson and Sargeant remain in command. Prop 1 is passing 2,308-2,124 and Prop 2 is passing 2,691-1,780.

8:35 p.m.: Juneau #3 and Mendenhall Valley #2, Mendenhall Valley #3 and Mendenhall #4 have yet to report. The Valley precincts are the big ones, with more than 2,000 registered voters apiece.

8:34 p.m.: Lynn Canal reports in. Sanford is ahead 2,076-2,011 now in the total count. Jones leads 2,280-1,236. Nankervis leads 2,348-587. Story, Carlson and Sargeant are still comfortably ahead, with Muldoon in fourth place. Prop 1 is still succeeding 2,145-1,997, as is Prop 2, 2,505-1,677.

8:30 p.m.: More results now from Juneau #2. Sanford now leads only 1,856-1,844. Jones up to 2,083-1,109. Nankervis 2,118 to 539 write-in votes. Story, Carlson and Sargeant remain ahead, as do both ballot propositions.

8:26 p.m.: Getting some more results, this time from Auke Bay. Sanford is still ahead 1,648-1,328. Jones is up 1,593-970. Nankervis is ahead 1,813-362. Still Story, Carlson, Sargeant in that order, with Muldoon cresting 1,000 at 1,019 total votes. Johnston is in fifth. Prop 1's margin narrows at 1,535 "yes" to 1,487 "no." Prop 2 ahead 1,776-1,276.

8:24 p.m.: We have Lemon Creek numbers. Sanford leads 1,354-1,122 now. Jones is ahead 1,357-794. Nankervis is up 1,506-313. Story, Carlson and Sargeant still lead. Prop 1 is passing 1,301-1,208, and Prop 2 is passing 1,478-1,060.

8:22 p.m.: As Mendenhall Valley #1 reports, Sanford puts some distance on Jebe. He is now up 1,151 to 1,026. Jones leads 1,210-667. Nankervis is up 1,294 to 291. Story, Carlson, Sargeant still ahead for school board. Props 1 and 2 are still succeeding.

8:21 p.m.: Real dogfight for mayor. Sanford now leads 881-869. Jones ahead 996-512. Nankervis comfortably in front 1,002-259. Story, Carlson and Sargeant still ahead. Prop 1 leads 973-801, Prop 2 leads 1,106-690.

8:20 p.m.: Clarification to that last post. Story is in first, Carlson second, Sargeant third. Top three vote-getters are elected to school board.

8:18 p.m.: Another update from North Douglas. Sanford 643 to Jebe 623. Jones 704 to Nowlin 383. Nankervis 729 to write-in 183. Carlson, Story and Sargeant remain on top. Prop 1 now ahead 705-585, Prop 2 ahead 792-510.

8:17 p.m.: More results coming in from Douglas. Sanford is up to 464 votes, Jebe at 385. Jones leads Nowlin 469 to 277. Nankervis has 512 votes to 113 write-in votes. Carlson is at 427, Story at 537, Sargeant at 386, Johnston at 235, Muldoon at 272. Proposition 1 has 455 votes for to 414 against, and Proposition 2 has 521 votes for to 357 against.

8:12 p.m.: We have our first batch of results here at Election Central. From Juneau Airport Area, we have in the mayoral race 227 votes for Merrill Sanford, 158 votes for Cheryl Jebe and three write-in; in District 1, 190 votes for Loren Jones, 154 for Paul Nowlin and two write-in; in District 2, 239 votes for Jerry Nankervis and 53 write-in; for the Juneau School District Board of Education, 181 votes for Phyllis Carlson, 242 votes for Andrea "Andi" Story, 182 votes for Destiny Sargeant, 115 votes for Michelle Johnston, 123 votes for Will Muldoon and 16 write-in; for Proposition 1, 190 "yes" votes and 199 "no" votes; and for Proposition 2, 215 "yes" votes and 182 "no" votes.

8:04 p.m.: Juneau voters have been casting absentee ballots since Sept. 17. The only results reported tonight, however, will be Election Day vote totals. Absentee and questioned ballots are set to be counted on Friday.

8 p.m.: Polls have just closed. We will be reporting results as we get them.

7:35 p.m.: As a reminder, all results reported tonight are preliminary and unofficial. Results are not set to be certified until next Tuesday.

7:30 p.m.: The Juneau Empire is here at Election Central in City Hall, awaiting the results of the City and Borough of Juneau's 2012 municipal election. Polls close in 30 minutes, so if you are registered to vote and you have not voted already, then quick — head out to your nearest polling place and do your civic duty.

Juneau's municipal polling places today are at the Auke Bay Fire Station, Nugget Mall, the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal, Mendenhall Mall, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Glacier Valley Baptist Church, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, the Douglas Public Library, the Juneau Arts and Culture Center, Northern Light United Church, the Tlingit and Haida Community Council Building, Alaska Electric Light and Power, and the Juneau Fire Station.
