We are coming off a long but fun weekend that included a road trip to Kraków, where we faced one of the top teams in our league Wisla CP Kraków. The game could’ve gone better as we lost 83-59. However, keep in mind that this team is not only one of the best teams in Poland, they’re also a top team in the Euroleague and have the WNBA’s MVP Tina Charles on their team among other great players. I enjoyed the trip not because of losing, or because of the 10 hour bus ride each way in our small bus/van, but because of the chance to explore Kraków a little bit.
When we arrived in Kraków Friday evening we had dinner and then went on a walk through part of Old Town, a main part of the city. This was pretty cool to see and it was definitely bigger than the Old Town in Gdansk, however it also seemed more commercialized. There were a lot of souvenir shops, restaurants, other shopping, and even a Hard Rock Café. After getting a little lost, even with the guidance of some of our Polish teammates, our short stroll turned into a bit of a cold long walk but it was definitely worth it. We played the game Saturday evening and then drove back through the night, getting home at about 6:30 AM on Sunday.
Tonight we went to an event in Gdynia that was similar to a banquet or awards show. It was for all of the sports teams in Gdynia and they had a lot of presentations of awards and recognition for sponsors of the teams here. This probably would have been a little more entertaining had it not been entirely in Polish so I could’ve known what was being said but at least there were some performances that were fun to watch. Also, for all you Seahawks fans, you’d be happy to know that a team called Seahawks Gdynia won an award. Not sure what the award was for, or even what sport that team competes in, but the 12th man was represented all the way over here in Gdynia!
We have a nice full week of practices ahead of us before traveling on Sunday for another road game.
