Almost Time For Games

Just when I thought I was finally looking like less of an American tourist as I go about my day-to-day activities, an experience last week turned that all around. I was walking through the mall by myself enjoying a mocha when I noticed this old lady sweeping the floors. I felt her eyes fixed on me as we walked almost side by side. I turned to look at her but it didn’t alter her obvious fixation. Maybe my hair was looking a little crazy or something, I’m not really sure. This was a little weird but turned comical seconds later. With her head turned to the side, she failed to see the wall sticking out in front of her and ran her broom straight into it. After jumping back and being slightly startled, she quickly pushed her broom to the side and walked away as if nothing happened. Not sure how I felt about her staring at me but I couldn’t help but laugh a little at the result.
Since the last time I wrote, we played two more scrimmage games and are getting ready for the opening weekend of our league play. Last week we played a team from Sweden in two closed scrimmages. We won both games and seem to be playing better as a team. These were our last chances to play against someone other than ourselves. This week has been full of practice as we prepare for our opening weekend of games.
On Saturday we will leave and drive 10 hours to play a team in Southern Poland on Sunday. Then we will travel to another city for a game on Monday before returning home. Playing back-to-back away games in two different cities isn’t exactly convenient scheduling especially when the long bus rides are factored in; but it’s the hand we were dealt and the start of season so we will have to push all of that aside!
I’m very interested to experience what traveling will be like and to see some other parts of Poland. However, the 10-hour bus ride to our first game could be quite the challenge. I don’t think I’ve been on a bus for longer than 5 or 6 hours. Hopefully some snacks, a few movies on my iPad, and some games on my phone will get me through!
Go Gdynia!
