Super Bowl Sunday

One of the perks of long bus rides, watching the sun set over the countryside.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I am going to do my best to watch it over here in Poland. Hopefully I will be able to stay up late enough and my WiFi will work well enough to see somewhat of a clear picture.

We had an exciting weekend of basketball here in Gdynia. My team made some great progress in our game on Saturday. After a couple of pretty bad loses, we were matched up with the current 2nd place team, CCC Polkowice, and we came out and fought and almost pulled off the upset. We were neck and neck the whole game and had a two point lead entering the fourth quarter but weren’t able to withstand their run at the end and ended up losing by 8 points. If moral victories exist, this was definitely one of them and hopefully will spark a new energy among our team and help us end the season on a positive note. We are nearing the end of season; we only have two more regular season games, followed by two Polish Cup games and then we will begin playoffs. This weekend’s game was a lot of fun, our team played really well; probably the best we have all season. We play on the road this week on Wednesday and will need the same type of game to get a win, as we play another top team in our league.

Gdynia was also the host of a major basketball tournament this past week. The Under- 20 National Tournament took place and we were able to catch a couple of the games that our younger team was playing in. This morning we watched as the Gdynia team won and earned a 3rd place finish. The atmosphere was loud and intense as usual and it was a lot of fun to watch some of the girls who play on our team as well.

This week a few of my teammates and I decided to work on a puzzle to occupy a bit of our down time. After two nights, we finished the 1,500 piece puzzle with headaches and probably some harm to our vision after trying to put a sky together that I thought would never happen.

Also, this week I went with one of my teammates to the bowling alley here where we were asked to help present trophies to individual and team winners of a local competition. We placed medals around their necks and I quickly learned how to say congratulations in Polish so I didn’t seem too lost as I shook their hands and smiled.

It is starting to warm up a bit outside which has been nice and even better has been the increase in daylight. This has been really nice especially since we are having some light issues in our apartment. For about a month now I have only had a lamp in my room to use for light. My light fixture is experiencing some electrical complications- when there are light bulbs in the sockets, two lights won’t turn off and the other won’t turn on. I know, I’m confused as well. Something to do with the fuses I’m sure, however we haven’t quite been able to solve the mystery. Besides my electrical problem, we have had about 10 light bulbs burn out in the past two weeks. They must have put light bulbs in every fixture at the same time and now they are all reaching end point and we have had to make a few trips to the store to buy some replacements. We finally have the heaters working well, and now we are working on fixing the light situation and then we will be back to living large!

Hope everyone has a great Super Bowl Sunday. I am praying that my internet not only works well enough to watch the game, but that the online stream will include the commercials and half-time show because we all know those are just as exciting as the game itself! I’m not sure who will win but I think it will be a team coached by someone with the last name Harbaugh. (Good joke right?)
