Juneau Dance Theatre presents annual “Spring Showcase”

Juneau Dance Theatre (JDT) presents its annual “Spring Showcase” at the Juneau Douglas High School Auditorium April 27-28. This year’s mixed repertoire program features excerpts from “Giselle,” “The Sleeping Beauty,” “Paquita,” and “La Bayadére.” The performance will showcase students of all levels in new works created by choreographers Heidi Rood, Janice Hurley, Alisha Falberg, Anna McDowell, Catherine Fowle, and JDT Director Zachary Hench. The performance also features dance duo, Keelyn McDonald and Kaden Harris, recent winners of “Juneau’s Got Talent.”

Several world premieres including “Nightfall,” by choreographer Heidi Rood, will be showcased. Rood danced as a soloist with one of the world’s leading contemporary companies, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, in Montreal, Canada. Catherine Fowle, Janice Hurley and Alisha Falberg, three of JDT’s faculty teachers, also contribute new pieces to this program. JDT also presents “Then, the Rain Turned Purple,” new work and contemporary ballet, choreographed by JDT advanced dancer, and senior, Anna McDowell.

Performances are Friday, April 27, 7 p.m, and Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Performance lengths are approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes including one intermission.

Tickets are $20 general admission or $15 youth/senior/student, available at www.juneaudance.org, the JACC, Hearthside Books, and at the door.

A raffle drawing will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. This fundraising effort supports JDT financial aid and outreach programs. Raffle tickets are $10 each, and can be purchased at the performances or various sales table locations around Juneau. Grand prize: $1,000.
