Richard Forrest “Rick” Halbert

Richard Forrest “Rick” Halbert died at Wrangell Medical Center on Sept. 7, 2011. He was 60.

He was born and raised in Hawaii before coming to the mainland after high school for further education and work. He became a skilled carpenter, working in several communities before ending up in Juneau. He came to Wrangell in 2005 following a deterioration in his health. After a period of time in the Long Term Care Unit of Wrangell Medical Center, he gradually returned to independent living. A lifelong Episcopalian, he undertook the role of custodian for St. Philip’s Church in Wrangell, voluntarily maintaining the parish hall for the congregation.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Pente, and a half-brother, Nicholas Pente, in California.

A celebration of life gathering is planned for 3 p.m. on Sept. 23 in the parish hall of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wrangell.
