Hesden Duane “Scoug” Scougal
Hesden Duane “Scoug” Scougal died Feb. 22, 2012. He was 90.
Scougal served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1940-42 before moving to Alaska in 1943. He married Roma Hulse in 1945 and they homesteaded in North Pole. He worked construction throughout Alaska, served as administrative director of the Department of Highways, Petersburg’s city manager and as both deputy and acting commissioner of the Department of Transportation. After retiring, he served on the Board of Transportation.
His wife, three sisters and one brother precede him in death. He is survived by daughters Roma Lee Scougal of Big Lake and Becky (Michael) Orford of Juneau, brother Calvin (Kay) Scougal of Newport News, Va., and several other family members.
His ashes will be interred next to his wife in the Mecklin Cemetery near her hometown of Oak Grove, Mo. A graveside service is planned in Missouri later this year. A memorial gathering of friends is planned in the Mat-Su Valley.
