Ralph Kibby Sr.
Ralph Kibby Sr. died at his Douglas home March 12, 2012. He was 85.
He was born Dec. 9, 1926 in Silver City, Nev.
Kibby arrived in Juneau on a steamship in 1931 and spent his childhood and adult life in Douglas. He met his wife Vivian at Percy’s Café, where she was employed. Vivian and Ralph were married April 1, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Douglas.
He was a veteran of World War II, served on the Douglas City Council and with the Douglas Fire Department. He owned and operated Channel Bus Lines, a bus service, providing transportation between Douglas and Juneau. He worked as a mechanic in the construction and logging industries. He was lead mechanic for the City and Borough of Juneau until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian, parents Eva and Melvin Kibby and his sister Melva.
He is survived by his daughter Kary (Kevin) Mabie of Mead, Colo.; sons Roger Kibby, Brian Kibby and Ralph (Julia Smith-Kibby) Kibby Jr.; sister, Betty Cashel and other family members.
