Rosalind “Rose” (Starr) Commodore
Rosalind “Rose” (Starr) Commodore died April 5, 2012. She was 68.
She belonged to the Wooshkeetaan (Eagle/Shark) clan of the Nu Hit in Angoon and attended elementary schools in Angoon and Juneau before attending high school in Seattle and Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka before going to Haskell University in Lawrence, Kan.
Commodore previously served on the board of directors for Kootznoowoo Corp. She was a 40-year employee of the federal government and worked in various capacities under the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Health and Human Services and most recently the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cooney C. Starr Sr. and Mary (Johnson) Starr; sisters Constance Starr and Gloria Starr; husband Pete Commodore and other family members.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Starr; brothers Cooney (Idella) Starr Jr. of Mescallero N.M.; Dennis (Delores) Starr of Juneau; Vincent Starr of Angoon and Melvin Starr of Angoon.
Services are schedule for Saturday at the Tlingit and Haida Community Center, 3235 Hospital Drive. A time will be announced later.
